Ought  to   =   ना  चाहिए   =   नैतिक  बाध्यता  का  बोध  कराने  के लिए

Note : ( 1 )   साधारणत:   ‘  चाहिए  ‘   के  लिए   Should  तथा  अवश्य  चाहिए  के  लिए   Must   का  प्रयोग  करे।

( 2 )   Ought  to  का  प्रयोग  वैसे  बाध्यता  के  लिए  होता  हैं  जो  नैतिक  /  सामजिक  हो  न  कि  कानूनी।  यह  हमारा  नैतिक  कर्तव्य  हैं  कि  हम  अपने  माता – पिता  का  कहना  माने।  इसके  लिए  कानूनी  बाध्यता  नहीं  हैं।  अत:  इस  प्रकार  के  भाव  के  लिए   Ought  to  का  प्रयोग  होगा।  आप  चाहे  तो   Ought  to  के  बदले   Should  का  भी  प्रयोग  कर  सकते  हैं।

सभी   Subjects  के  साथ   Ought  to  का  प्रयोग  किया  जाता  हैं।
